About Me

Carlos Fernando Moreira is a photographer, a mountaineer, a volcano & a milky way chaser. I was born in Nicaragua and my adventures started the day I got my first DSLR camera as my birthday gift on 2014. I have been blessed by God to travel almost around the world experiencing what most of people can only experience through an LCD screen by watching Discovery Channel or National Geographic. I love photography and my main passion is landscape photography. My love for nature let me discovered my second passion for "Volcanoes & Milky Way".

My love for nature started in Taiwan on 2014 and after that, I have traveled to a lot of places around the continents of Asia and America capturing Sunrises, Sunsets, Blue Hours, Stars & Milky Way in Mountains, Caves, Beaches, Asian Temples and so on. I came back to my hometown Nicaragua on 2015 where I discovered my passion for Volcanoes. I did my first hike to Volcan Cerro Negro and after that, I hiked most of the volcanoes of Nicaragua.

Once I conquered the summits of the volcanoes in Nicaragua, I decided to create the first Nicaraguan Hiking Club "LOS MARIBIOS" to conquer volcanoes & mountains outside of Nicaragua and live new altitude experiences.

My "EXPEDITIONS" out of Nicaragua

  1. My First Entry into Mountaineering to reach "High Altitude" in Guatemala: On July 2016 I hiked Volcan Santa Maria (3, 772 meters above sea level) and Volcan Tajumulco (4,220 meters above sea level). These were the two first volcanoes where I waved my Nicaraguan Flag for the first time outside of Nicaragua.

  2. My First Entry into "Very High Altitude" in Mexico: At the end of October 2016 I hiked the highest volcanoes of Mexico including one of the VOLCANIC SEVEN SUMMITS known as PICO DE ORIZABA - Highest Volcano of North America.

  3. Time to Visit an Old Friend Tajumulco: On December 2016 I traveled back to Guatemala where I hiked 5 volcanoes in 5 days as a personal hiking training. For this trip, I hiked Volcan Pacaya, Acatenango, Fuego, Chicabal and Tajumulco from Monday to Friday starting at Guatemala City to finish at the border between Guatemala with Mexico.

  4. Conquer the Summit of Mt. Shasta: On April 2017 I flew to United States and hike Mt. Shasta. We did not have the best weather to reach its summit but we had fun and I honestly fall in love with this mountain. I will definitely go back and hike it one more time.

  5. Going back to visit the White Woman: This is going to be my 2nd time flying back to Mexico and 2nd time visiting my most favorite mountain from Mexico "Iztaccihuatl", which means White Woman in Nahuatl language. But before hiking this mountain, I will hike two other mountains for acclimatization and avoid altitude sickness.

My first article at La Prensa Newspaper - Pasion por las Cimas

Bautizo de Alta Montana (translated into english is High Mountain Baptism) is a tradition in Mexico where the rest of mountaineers from your team throw you snowballs once you reach an altitude of 5,000 meters AMSL for the first time in your life and yes, the mountains from Mexico where the first place where I could wave the flag of Nicaragua in an altitude higher than 5,000 meters AMSL

What does "Los Maribios" mean? and What does the Hiking Club Logo means?

Los Maribios is a volcanic chain located in the Pacific Side of Nicaragua and it has 5 important members: Volcan San Cristobal (1, 745 meters) , Telica (1, 060 meters) , Cerro Negro (728 meters) , El Hoyo (1, 050 meters) & Momotombo (1, 258 meters) above sea level as shown at the top side of the hiking club logo from left to right. Most of these volcanoes are active and the last one is currently "VERY ACTIVE" so people are not allowed to hike it right now due to its last eruption on November 2015.

I decided to choose Los Maribios as the domain name for my website as well as the name for my hiking club due to the love I have to these volcanoes. I spend almost all my weekends exploring the nature around these volcanoes and guiding the new members of our hiking club so they can also witness the beauty of our volcanic chain and teach them all I know about mountaineering.
